The (R)evolution of Pot During the Psychedelic Era

Get ready to “Turn On, Tune In, Toke Up,” Sixties-style.

After the success of MM: Prohibition, the acclaimed 2018 burlesque musical set from the 1930s to the 1950s, Miss Marquez and Grassfed are proud to announce the second part of the MM series--REVOLUTION, an entirely new hip happening about the (r)evolution of Pot during the psychedelic era.

MM: Revolution brings together some of the most accomplished burlesque dancers in Los Angeles with live interpretations of the weed-static soundtrack of the era. The true story (and the history) of the (r)evolution of Pot during the psychedelic is retold in his inimitable, crowd-pleasing style by ace weed journalist Abdullah Saeed (Vice’s “Bong Appetit,” HBO’s “High Maintenance,” “Great Moments in Weed History” podcast).

The festival of light, visuals (burlesque performances by Miss Marquez, Nikki Dalonzo and Jamie Donovan) and sound (the Willie McNeil Experience featuring Vocalist Jessie Payo) that is the show itself is bookended--before, during intermission, and after--by the chance to visit the nearby Groovy Lounge. Guests entering this trip-enhancing lounge space can elevate their experience with the signature Grassfed smoke-free bar, and delectable health conscious edibles, while getting an intimate introduction to the cast of the show.

An immersive, mind-altering environment MM : Revolution encourages patrons to get into the mindset of the Peace and Love era, including the rare opportunity to dress up in the colorful threads of this most groovy of sartorial periods.

Weedmaps Review

“The band performed several '60s hits over the course of the show, ranging from “Incense and Peppermints” and “Season of the Witch” to “Purple Haze” and Janis Joplin's “Ball and Chain” (a powerful showcase for Payo's vocals), providing a killer soundtrack for Dalonzo's, Donovan's, and Marquez's performances. Dalonzo's sets were marked by a swinging-London/go-go aesthetic, Donovan a dark beatnik vibe, and Marquez the persona of a glossy-green glam-rock Pot queen.”

Meet the Cast

The Miss Marquez

is MM: Revolution’s creator, producer and featured dancer. This is the second burlesque musical she has conceived about the history of Pot, after last year’s most popular Pot-themed burlesque show in the US, MM: Prohibition. Named by LA Weekly“the hardest-working dancer in Los Angeles burlesque,” the Miss Marquez has performed international and in all the major venues in the city since 2010. Her Pot-based acts have been a highlight of her performances and were inspired by the successful road to legalization of Pot in California.

Abdullah Saeed

is a James Beard Award-nominated Pot journalist who starred in Vice Media’s Bong Appetit, was featured in HBO’s High Maintenance, and co-hosts his own podcast Great Moments in Weed History. As the MC of MM: Revolution, Abdullah brings his unique expertise about the history of Pot and will serve as experienced guide to the audience into this trip through the (r)evolution of Pot in the the psychedelic era, and it will surely be a gas, man.

The Willie McNeil Experience

is the freak-out supergroup assembled by MM’s musical director Willie McNeil (drums) to bring to life the mind-expanding sounds of the 1960s. Featuring Carey Frank (Keyboardist), Ishmael Perez (Singer/Guitarist) and David Goodwin (Bassist). The WME will transport you into a sound cloud of incense, peppermint, crimson and clover that is sure to envelop your journey into the most influential era in the history of drug music.

one of the most distinctive burlesque performers in Los Angeles, embodies the ideal of the 1960s pinup during the psychedelic and go-go years. With her epic red hair and sensuous curves, Nikki would have been at home in one of those multi-colored, paisley-filled spreads in a 1968 Playboy magazine, or high up in a cage at the Whisky-a-Go-Go back when The Doors were the house band. An in-demand talent with appearances in videos (Britney Spears. Kelly Rowland, Ricky Martin), TV (Pretty Little Liars, MTV’s VMAs, Dancing with the Stars) and film (Tropic Thunder), Nikki will light everyone’s fire.

our resident Beatnik Beauty, is a trained professional dancer who is equally at home performing as part of underground art projects, alternative LGBTQ venues, LA’s Fashion Week and several burlesque shows. She has appeared in videos for music superstars (Beck, Ricky Martin, Major Lazer), major TV shows (SNL, the Grammys), commercials (Nike, Toyota) and has worked with some of the best contemporary cutting-edge directors (Tim & Eric’s Eric Wareheim and Atlanta’s Hiro Murai). She brings a mysterious, cool grace to the darker side of the psychedelic era.

Jessie Payo

Los Angeles singer-songwriter Jessie Payo, known for her brilliant vocal and poetic songwriting, spent the year crisscrossing the country supporting her new single “She Will Love Again” which is lighting up Americana radio nationwide.

No stranger to the road, Jessie’s opened and performed with everyone from Jason Mraz to Eric Hutchinson, Lauryn Hill, Melissa Etheridge and Toad The Wet Sprocket. Her music has appeared on MTV’s hit series’ “The Hills”, “The City”, “My Super Sweet Sixteen”, ABC’s “Make it or Break it”, FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance”, CBS’s “Criminal Minds”, and E!’s “The Daily Ten.”
